Operando spectroscopy fuel cell for X-ray absorption (XAS) and infrared (IR) measurements

The operando spectroscopy fuel cell combines the implementation of infrared and X-ray absorption spectroscopy for the investigation of membrane electrode assemblies (MEAs) under normal operating conditions, eliminating the need for MEA extraction and interchange of cells.  The spectroscopy cell is mounted on a slider assembly that provides a 9-pin connector for interfacing to an EZstat potentiostat/galvanostat. The EZstat controls the cell potential or current, the cell temperature, reactant transfer lines and the humidifiers.  The slider assembly includes fittings for fuel and oxidant delivery and exhaust.   A slot on the underside of the cell ensures precise positioning of the cell within a Pike diffuse-IR accessory. The cell features a pin-style upper flow field to optimize flow distribution around a CaF2 window.  

Steel rule cutting dies are included in the spectroscopy cell package for assembly (two for Teflon gaskets and one for cutting of the gas diffusion layers). Replacement parts are available.

Specifications:
The spec cell interfaces with an IR diffuse reflectance accessory (i.e. Pike Technologies, Madison, WI) and has been used at the Argonne National Laboratory Advanced Photon Source and at Brookhaven.
